Making Home Affordable Initiative

All families in our community, regardless of income level or cost of their home, have been seriously impacted by the housing crisis. The Jewish Housing Association (JHA) was established as a response to this crisis.

JHA’s “Making Home Affordable Initiative” is designed to assist Jewish homeowners in Michigan, whether they are current or delinquent on their mortgage payments, to determine if the family qualifies for mortgage payment reduction offered by the programs set up by the federal government. Our staff of certified loan counselors will review family’s mortgages to determine how much money can be saved by:

  • Modifying Adjustable and Option Rate Mortgages to Fixed Rate
  • Reducing interest rates on 1st and 2nd mortgages
  • Advising on sale options for homes which have a mortgage balance greater than the value on their home (is underwater)
  • Foreclosure and short sale counseling.

Any family who is unsure if they are eligible for mortgage payment and/or interest rate reductions or has questions about their current mortgage can contact JHA. All cases and situations are treated confidentially and professionally. All services are provided at NO COST to the family and are paid for by the Community.
